In 2019 we observe the 250th anniversary of Daniel Boone's first expedition into Kentucky through the Cumberland Gap. Author Randell Jones will share an engaging presentation on the life and times of this iconic pioneer, including episodes perhaps lesser-known to some Kentuckians. Jones, who lives in North Carolina, is the author of In the Footsteps of Daniel Boone and Trailing Daniel Boone. He received the History Award Medal from the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, and two Kentucky History Awards from the Kentucky Historical Society. "In this episode, we meet author Randell Jones, and explore his writing about the Revolutionary War in the South and the adventures of Daniel Boone.
"Randell reads from his script, "The American Spirit, 1780," which takes us into the battle of Kings Mountain, a turning point in the fight for Americans' freedom. He then reads from In The Footsteps of Daniel Boone, taking us to the backcountry along the Kentucky River, where Boone is engaged in a harrowing encounter with a party of armed Shawnees.
