Born in Lexington, Kentucky, on June 24, 1912. Physician, Neurosurgeon. Civic Leader. University of Kentucky, B.S., 1934. Died July 18, 1998.
After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from the University in 1934, he entered Vanderbilt University, where he earned the Doctor of Medicine degree in 1938. Prior to military service in World War II, he held a neurosurgical residency at Vanderbilt, and was licensed to practice medicine in both Kentucky and Tennessee. During military service he was a neurosurgeon with the Vanderbilt Medical Unit, which he served four years, most of it overseas with the Medical Corps 5th Army (1942-45) in North Africa and Italy.
He has served on the staffs of Good Samaritan, St. Joseph (President), Baptist, Cardinal Hill, Veterans Administration and U.S. Public Health Service Hospitals in Lexington. He has been Associate Clinical Professor of neurosurgery at the UK Medical Center. He has held memberships in the American Medical Society, the Kentucky and Fayette County Medical societies, and the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
Serving both the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees (Chairman, Executive Committee) 16 years, and the UK Alumni Association (National President in 1959-60)19 years. He has devoted time to the UK Athletic Executive Board, and was a member of the Council on Higher Education in Kentucky, as well as the executive committee of the University of Kentucky Research Foundation. He also served on the Medical Center board.
He was named an honorary member of the K-Men's Association in 1965. He also is the recipient of an honorary degree from the University of Kentucky. As a student he was a member of Sepha Tau Omega, Omicron Delta Kappa, Lamp and Cross, and The Pre-Medical Society.
Ralph John Angelucci was named to the Hall of Distinguished Alumni in February 1965.
