Barkley, John L.

1848 - 1909

Dry Goods Merchant and Banker.

John L. Barkley was born around 1848 in Scott County, Kentucky.  He came to Lexington in 1881 to engage in the dry goods business and around 1889 entered into partnership with his brother, George Barkley.

Mr. Barkley became President of the Central Bank around 1900 and after the formation of the Lexington Banking and Trust Company in 1906, he continued to serve as President for two years.  He died during 1909 in Lexington.
