Bassett, James Edward

J. Edward Bassett was born in Lexington on November 18, 1860, the son of Squire Bassett.  During 1882, he joined his father's firm of Squire Bassett & Sons (a retail shoe and boot merchant).  In 1905, Mr. Bassett was selected a director of the Fayette National Bank and in 1908 he succeeded his father as President.  During 1909, Mr. Bassett also replaced his father as a director of the Security Trust Company.  He remained in both positions until 1931, when the Fayette National Bank was acquired by the First National Bank.

From 1931 until his death in 1941, he was associated with the firm of J. W. Stoll & Company.  Mr. Bassett was President of the Chamber of Commerce in 1908 and 1911.
