Breckinridge, Desha

1867 - 1935

Newspaper Publisher.

Desha Breckinridge was born in 1867 in Lexington, the son of Confederate Colonel William C. P. Breckinridge.  After his father's death in 1904, he became the publisher and sole owner of the Lexington Herald.  His newspaper supported progressive reforms in Kentucky, educational improvements, a state tuberculosis sanitarium and women's suffrage.  He was married to Madeline McDowell, a granddaughter of Henry Clay.  Mr. Breckinridge served as a director of the First National Bank (during the 1910s), First & City National Bank (1913 to the 1920s) and Fayette National Bank (1930 to 1931).  He died in 1935.
