Mr. Curry was born in Harrodsburg on June 23, 1829. He was the son of James and Katherine (Stagg) Curry. He was educated in Harrodsburg until the age of fifteen. After this he worked as a clerk in the Harrodsburg Post Office for one year. Then he apprenticed to a tailor for the term of four years. On September 21, 1852, Mr. Curry married Elizabeth Porter Lewis.
At age 20, he started work as a merchant tailor in Harrodsburg until 1856. He owned a drug and book business until 1878 in Harrodsburg before moving the store to Danville. In 1883 he moved to Lexington and became a senior member of the grocery firm of Curry, Howard and Murray, which became Curry, Tunis & Norwood in 1890.
Mr. Curry was a Republican. He was a member of 2nd Presbyterian in Lexington, as well as an elder of the church. He served as President for the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA). He also served on the Board of Trustees for Center College.
