Benjamin J. Elkin was born in Lexington on May 7, 1930. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1952 and for the next two years served in the U. S. Army as a First Lieutenant. After returning to Lexington, he was Deputy Tax Commissioner for Fayette County from 1954 to 1956. In September 1956, Mr. Elkin joined the First National Bank and Trust Company and by 1959, he was promoted to Assistant Cashier of Operations.
After the merger in 1961, he became an Assistant Cashier of Commercial Lending. Mr. Elkin was promoted to Assistant Vice President in 1961, Vice President in 1966, First Vice President in 1973, Senior Vice President in 1978 and Executive Vice President in 1980. He was appointed President of the First Security National Bank and Trust Company in 1985 and retired in 1991. Mr. Elkin was also the President of the Chamber of Commerce during 1989.
