The Guaranty Bank and Trust Company was formed in 1912 (as the Title Guaranty Trust Company), with the name changed in 1920.

The Citizens Bank and Trust Company was formed in June 1931, as the "successor in reorganization" of the Guaranty Bank and Trust Company (which failed on February 2, 1931). The Citizens Bank also failed, but was reorganized in late 1931.
The Citizens Bank reopened for business on July 3, 1931. The new bank's officers were W. A. Dickens, President; F. P. Drake, Vice President and Frank L. Snyder, Cashier. Directors of the new bank were Professor W. S. Anderson, S. Bing, Thomas C. Bradley, Matt M. Caly, R. J. Colbert, J. Bruce Davis, W. A. Dickens, F. P. Drake, Daniel Durbin, George H. Gearhart, T. C. Geary, Charles Land, D. B. Midkiff, A. I. Munns, J. J. Richardson, Dr. J. T. Slato, Frank L. Snyder, J. Stuart Tracy and T. B. Satterwhite.

In 1955, the Citizens Bank and Trust Company merged with the Union Bank and Trust Company, to form the Citizens Union Bank and Trust Company.
