Nurseryman and Capitalist.
Hector F. Hillenmeyer was born on August 28, 1849 near Sandersville, Fayette County, Kentucky. He inherited his father's farm and nursery business (Hillenmeyer Nurseries, founded in 1841, the second oldest business in Lexington). His sister, Jane Hillenmeyer, married William A. L. Harting (which see), a prominent Lexington banker. Mr. Hillenmeyer was well known throughout the South as a horticulturist and remained active in the field his whole life. He also served as a director of the Lexington City National Bank (from 1892 to 1913), First City National Bank (from 1913 until his death), Kentucky Natural Gas Company and Lexington Water Company. He died on March 3, 1923.
