James Lane Allen Elementary School

James Lane Allen Elementary School - a county school located at 1901 Appomattox Road.  The school was constructed on 15 acres in the Gardenside area.  The school named for James Lane Allen, one of Kentucky's foremost 19th century authors.  The school opened on August 28, 1958 (with 20 classrooms) and was renovated in 1986 (with the addition of a new wing).[i]
