Lafayette High School

Lafayette High School - a county high school, was located on Reed Lane, in Rosemont Garden Subdivision.  The site was the William A. Leavy’s farm, known as “The Elms.”  Leavy was one of the original members of the city school’s committee.  The school was named for the Marquis de Lafayette, the French general during the American Revolutionary War.  The school received permission from the Marquis de Lafayette family to used their Coat of Arms.  The facility was built in 1939 for $300,000 (funded by a Work Progress Administration grant).  In 1954, a junior high was added to the facility.
