J. Waller Rodes was born in 1856 in Lexington, Kentucky. After graduating from the Kentucky University, he entered the legal profession and for the next six years was the Deputy Sheriff for Fayette County. In 1888, Mr. Rodes was instrumental in the founding of the Phoenix National Bank, serving as the first Cashier (1888 to 1910) and as President (1910 to 1911). After the merger, Mr. Rodes was elected President of the consolidated Phoenix & Third National Bank (from 1911 to 1913). He continued as a director until his death. In addition, he was a director of the Phoenix & Third Trust Company from 1913 until 1922. He was also a founder of the Fayette Interurban Traction Company. He died during 1922.
