Clothier and Banker.

Louis Straus was born in Lexington and established Straus Brothers (a gentlemen's clothing store) with his brother Gus Straus, sometime prior to 1881.  He was also President of the City's Board of Aldermen during the 1890s.  Mr. Straus was elected President of the Central Bank in 1893 and served until his death in 1898.  After his death, his store continued to operate under the name Kaufman Clothing Store.  He served during 1891 as the Chamber of Commerce's President.
