Neilan Thurman was born in Letcher County, Kentucky on March 19, 1925. During the Second World War, he served in the U. S. Navy in the South Pacific and Philippine Islands. After the war, he attended the University of Kentucky, graduating with high distinction in 1949, and began working for the First National Bank and Trust Company in 1951. He became an Assistant Cashier in 1957 and an Assistant Vice President in 1959.
After the merger in 1961, Mr. Thurman was promoted to Vice President, Senior Vice President in 1971 and Executive Vice President in 1974 of the First Security National Bank. Mr. Thurman was again promoted to Vice Chairman in 1979 and President in 1981. He retired in 1985.
