Union Bank and Trust Company (1905-1955)

In September 1905, the Union Bank and Trust Company was chartered by a group of merchants headed by Clarence LeBus, a Cynthiana capitalist.  The bank was capitalized for one hundred thousand dollars, of which Mr. LeBus contributed eighty-five percent.  The bank's directors were Clarence LeBus, George A. Bain, D. W. Scott, D. B. Jones, C. M. Marshall, C. C. Patrick, W. L. Spears, J. Frank Van Deren, Henry Voght, J. T. Watkins and J. Tevis Wilkerson.

J. Tevis Wilkerson was elected President and Joseph W. Porter (see Profiles), Cashier of the new institution.  Mr. Wilkerson was the sheriff of Fayette County.  Mr. Porter was President of the Chamber of Commerce and owner of Aylesford Land Company.

1906

The new bank opened for business on January 14, 1906 and was located on Main Street at Upper.  Bank records indicate that the bank paid dividends every year since its organization.

In 1955, the Union Bank and Trust Company merged with the Citizens Bank and Trust Company to form the Citizens Union Bank and Trust Company.
