Window on the War (Civil War Lexington)

Window on the War

What was it like to live in Lexington during the War Between the States? Frances Dallam Peter was a young woman who lived in Gratz Park and kept a diary of the events she saw, read about, or heard. Relive the exciting events of January 19, 1862, through April 4, 1864.

The Window on the War Display, was a small exhibit that was featured inside our Lincoln and His Wife's Hometown exhibit. A Union Woman in Civil War Kentucky: The Diary of Frances Peter, is the published version of her diary, upon which the exhibit was based.  This exhibit was featured at the Lexington History Museum in 2009.
